Doha, Qatar – The lights of the Khalifa Sports Complex shone over a packed Centre Court on Saturday night as the men’s final of the Premier Padel Qatar Major delivered another dose of drama, athleticism, and a touch of inevitability.

Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, the dominant force in world padel, battled back from an early deficit to defeat Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán, clinching their first Major title of the 2025 season in front of a roaring Doha crowd.

Final score: Coello/Tapia 7-6, 6-4 Galán/Chingotto

Dubbed ‘Chingalán’ by fans, Galán and Chingotto stormed out of the gates, taking a commanding 4-1 lead in the first set. Their strategy was bold and deliberate—deny Coello and Tapia any opportunity to unleash their ferocious overheads.

In a rare tactical twist, Chingalán refused to lob, instead keeping the ball low, fast, and skimming through the middle in an attempt to neutralise the firepower of their top-seeded rivals.

For a while, it worked. The crowd buzzed as Galán’s relentless pace and Chingotto’s agility rattled the favourites. But champions adapt—and adapt Coello and Tapia did.

Midway through the set, the tide turned. Reading the chiquitas with growing ease, Coello and Tapia edged closer to the net, cutting off points early and forcing Chingalán to adjust. The Spaniard and the Argentine pair were suddenly suffocating their opponents, leaving only one escape route: the lob. And once the lobs started, the inevitable followed.

Tapia, in particular, turned the match on its head. With blistering bandejas and unstoppable por tres smashes, he lit up the Qatari night sky. Coello, towering at the net, was unpassable. The momentum shifted sharply and never really came back.

The first set went to a tiebreak, which Coello and Tapia sealed with a signature display of aggression and shot-making. The second followed a more predictable pattern, with the No.1 pairing suffocating their opponents into submission. By the final game, it felt less like a contest and more like a coronation.

What impact does the Qatar Major Final 2025 have on the FIP padel rankings?

The victory means that Coello and Tapia will take 2,000 ranking points, moving them further ahead of Chingalán, who will pick up 1,200 points for finishing as runners up.

As we move into the middle of the padel season, Chingotto and Galán are the only pairing who are realistically in with a shout of dethroning King Arturo and El Mozart from the top spot.

Chingotto and Galán showing signs of fatigue

Had Chingalán managed to see out the first set, this match might have marked a seismic shift in the 2025 rankings.

Ale Galán in particular cut a frustrated figure in this match, visibly annoyed with the resurgence of Coello and Tapia in the first set.

Galán was not afforded any real opportunity to his best shot, the kick smash, with Coello and Tapia exploiting a tactical chink in Chingalán's armour.

Whilst Fede Chingotto is one of–if not the best–defensive padel players on the tour, but when Coello and Tapia were lobbing, they were focusing on the right-sided Argentine, knowing that they were likely to receive one of Fede's cross-court viboras or bandejas in return.

This pattern became predictable, and left Galán trying more and more to involve himself in the match.

A win in this game could have pulled them significantly closer to Coello and Tapia in the race for year-end world No.1s. Instead, their title challenge was rebuffed with clinical efficiency.

This victory cements the dominance of ‘El Clásico’—a nickname earned not just through their star status but their increasingly mythic consistency. Tapia’s magic and Coello’s power continue to blend into a style of padel that feels both inevitable and inescapable.

Next up on the Premier Padel Tour: Brussels, then Rome

Both pairs now shift their focus to the upcoming Brussels P2 tournament before turning their attention to the second Major of the year—the Premier Padel Italy Major in Rome this June.

Why do the Majors matter so much? Beyond the prestige and financial reward, Major titles award double the ranking points of standard P1 tournaments. With larger draws and tougher fields, they also offer a rare chance for younger or lower-ranked players to break through on the biggest stage—echoing the ethos of tennis Grand Slams.

But in Doha, the stage belonged once again to Coello and Tapia. They weathered the storm, adjusted with frightening speed, and ultimately did what they do best—win. And as the padel world looks to Rome, one question remains: who, if anyone, can stop them?
