DOHA, Qatar – The world’s top padel players have descended upon the Khalifa International Complex for the Premier Padel Qatar Major, the latest high-stakes battle in a season already defined by fierce rivalries and dramatic showdowns.

With ranking points, prize money, and prestige on the line, the tournament promises thrilling matches as the sport’s elite vie for supremacy.

Winners of the Premier Padel Qatar Major 2025 will secure 2,000 ranking points, which will go a long way in securing a place in the Premier Padel Finals at the end of this year in Barcelona.

The finalists of the men and women's draws will receive 1,200 points towards the official FIP rankings 2025.

Whoa re the favourites to win the Premier Padel Qatar Major 2025?

The men’s draw is headlined by the formidable Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, the current world No. 1 pairing, who enter as top seeds.

The Spanish-Argentinian duo has dominated recent years, but their recent poor performances of late have been concerning.

Augustín Tapia has been nursing a long-term injury to his right arm, and has looked in pain on the court in recent tournaments – often refusing to hit any of his trademark kick smashes.

Lurking in their half of the draw are dangerous opponents, including Jon Sanz and Jerónimo "Mimo" González (5th seeds), a pairing capable of springing an upset with their aggressive net play.

Juan Lebrón and Franco Stupaczuk are notable absentees in the Premier Padel Qatar Major, after Stupa had to pull out of the Santiago P1 final against Chingotto and Galán with illness.

Meanwhile, the bottom half features Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto (2nd seeds), a proven duo with multiple Major titles to their name. Their biggest obstacle could come in a potential semifinal clash against Martín Di Nenno and Javier Garrido (4th seeds), whose tactical intelligence and defensive resilience make them perennial threats.

The Qatar Major will mark the end of the Di Nenno / Garrido pairing, with the master tactician choosing to switch to team up with Juan Tello.

The men's tournament’s knockout stages begin in earnest on Wednesday, April 17, with the quarterfinals set to deliver high-octane action. Among the most anticipated matchups:

  • Coello/Tapia (1) vs. Javier García/Javier Barahona (14) – The favourites should advance, but García and Barahona’s chemistry could test them early.
  • González/Sanz (5) vs. Pablo Cardona/Leandro Augsburger (8) – A battle of power versus precision, with the winners likely facing Coello and Tapia.
  • Galán/Chingotto (2) vs. Francisco Navarro/Lucas Bergamini (6) – Bergamini’s creativity could trouble the second seeds, but Galán’s consistency usually prevails.
  • Garrido/Di Nenno (4) vs. Francisco Guerrero/Jairo Bautista (12) – Di Nenno’s tactical mastery should steer his team through.

If the seeds hold, fans could be treated to two blockbuster semifinals on Thursday, April 18:

  1. Coello/Tapia vs. González/Sanz – A rematch of recent encounters, with Coello and Tapia’s explosive offense up against Sanz’s relentless pressure.
  2. Galán/Chingotto vs. Garrido/Di Nenno – A contrast in styles, as Galán’s power meets Di Nenno’s defensive brilliance.

Qatar Major 2025 men's predictions:

The championship match, scheduled for Friday, April 19, could see the top two seeds collide in what would be a fitting climax.

Coello and Tapia have been nearly unstoppable this season, but a recent injury to Agustín Tapia has allowed Galán and Chingotto to close the gap.

Chingalán, have all the experience and mental fortitude to dethrone them, having secured a bye victory in Santiago, and an impressive title win in the Miami P1.

A victory for Chingotto and Galán in Qatar will make the FIP rankings very interesting going into the Italy Major in June, 2025.

Premier Padel Qatar Major 2025 women's predictions:

Paula Josemaria and Ari Sánchez are undoubtedly the favourites going into the Premier Padel Qatar Major 2025.

They have been formidable this season, picking up more titles and rankings points than any other pairing so far in 2025, and they look unstoppable.

But the new pairing of Bea González and eighteen-year-old Claudia Fernández (now ranked third) could be the dark horses for the Qatar Major.

They have looked impressive in recent tournaments, and if González can learn to trust the exceptional talents of youngster Fernández, instead of attempting to win points by herself, they could go all the way in this tournament.

The evergreen threat of Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea, and pairing Sofia Araujo and Martita Ortega means that this year's Qatar Major is far from a full gone conclusion, with the women's quarter-finals onwards set to see some fierce clashes.

If the seeds hold, a Sánchez/Josemaria vs. Triay/Brea final seems inevitable. Yet González/Fernández’s emergence adds a wildcard winner; their combination of power and stamina makes them uniquely equipped to dethrone the establishment.

A González/Fernández victory would signal a generational shift. For Sánchez/Josemaria, anything short of the title would raise questions about their air of invincibility. And for Triay/Brea, another near-miss might necessitate a partnership rethink.
