The Premier Padel Santiago P1 is set to take centre stage from March 23-30, 2025, marking a crucial stop on this season's calendar.

Hosted at the Complejo Deportivo San Carlos de Apoquindo in Chile’s capital, the tournament promises thrilling matchups at an altitude of 950 metres above sea level.

The unique playing conditions and revamped tournament format make this a must-watch event.

A Return to the Classic Format

One of the biggest changes for Santiago P1 is the removal of the controversial "double bye" system. Previously, the top four men's pairs received automatic entry into the round of 16, sparking frustration among lower-ranked players and fans. Following pressure from the Professional Padel Association (PPA), the format has reverted to the 2024 structure, allowing eight pairs from the qualification rounds to join the main draw, significantly enhancing competition.

The Best in the World Compete in Santiago

As the second P1 event of the season, Santiago P1 will welcome the sport’s biggest names, fresh off intense battles in Miami. The men’s draw will feature 48 pairs, while 28 women’s teams will compete for the title.

Men's Key Players to Watch

  • Arturo Coello & Agustín Tapia (1) – The world number ones are looking to rebound after their semi-final exit in Miami. Tapia’s hand injury remains a concern, but if he plays, expect fireworks.
  • Fede Chingotto & Ale Galán (2) – Miami champions and in top form, they are among the favourites.
  • Juan Lebrón & Franco Stupaczuk (3) – Finalists in Florida, they are desperate to go one step further.
  • Martín Di Nenno & Javi Garrido (5) – A dangerous pairing capable of shaking up the tournament.

  • Yanguas/Nieto (4) vs Di Nenno/Garrido (5)
  • Gonzalez/Sanz (6) vs Chingotto/Galán (2)

Women's Key Players to Watch

  • Delfi Brea & Gemma Triay (2) – Coming off a dominant three-tournament winning streak in Gijón, Cancún, and Miami, they are the team to beat.
  • Paula Josemaria & Ariana Sánchez (1) – The world’s top-ranked pair, eager to reassert their dominance.
  • Alejandra Alonso & Andrea Ustero (6) – The rising stars will look to shake up the draw.

The History of Padel in Santiago

Santiago is no stranger to high-stakes padel. The Chilean capital previously hosted a World Padel Tour event in 2023 which was remembered for a controversial final between Galán/Lebrón and Tapia/Coello.

This year, with Premier Padel taking over, fans expect an electrifying atmosphere, especially with top-ranked Chilean players hoping to make an impact.

Unique Playing Conditions: Altitude and Aggressive Play

At nearly 1,000 metres above sea level, Santiago P1 offers conditions rarely seen in other tournaments. The thinner air means faster ball speed, favouring offensive players who can hit powerful smashes and precise bajadas. Expect high-paced rallies and aerial dominance to play a major role in determining the champions.
