Our verdict

The original 2022 Technical Viper is where the modern line's reputation was earned, and the scorecard remains a period piece of pure aggression: power 89, control 70, comfort 62, tolerance 60, the last being the least forgiving number in this class. Middle it and the ball leaves like an insult; miss the middle and the frame tells your elbow about it. Maneuverability 65 dates it further. What time has given is value 76, with old stock pricing this as the budget entrance to Viper pace. For strong, clean-striking attackers on a budget it still delivers; everyone else has three newer, kinder generations to choose from.

We loved
  • Power 89: the original statement, still loud
  • Head-heavy diamond rewards total commitment
  • Value 76 on remaining stock
  • Historical interest: the frame that built the line
Worth knowing
  • Tolerance 60: the strictest teacher in the range
  • Comfort 62 is genuinely hard on arms
  • Handling is dated next to the 2.5 and 3.0

The original, preserved in amber

Where the modern line's reputation was earned, and it remains a period piece of pure aggression: middle it and the ball leaves like an insult. Remaining stock is priced fairly for the history. It's also the strictest teacher in the range — miss the middle and you get nothing, the hit is genuinely hard on arms, and the handling feels dated next to the newer generations. For committed students only.
